__________________________
The memorial is a large smooth granite ashlar column on a plinth on a broad 2 stepped bluestone base. It stands in parkland on a hill overlooking the Derwent River and is a prominent landmark. There is a cross on each face at the top of the obelisk, illuminated at night. An avenue of poplars lines the broad approach.
